Where I’m At

This past few months I’ve been hopping in and of “Spiritual Disciplines of the Church” by Donald Whitney. First recommended by Pastor John when I was preparing for the Czech trip in ‘07, I got it after a book shopping spree (well, it felt like that when I walked out of Evangelical with 4 books) yet didn’t really start reading it until I started college ministry in October ‘08.  With anticipation that there would be challenging/teaching/explaining the importance of the local church with full conviction in this season of ministry, I knew this book would be a good aid. And it has been…it’s definitely helped me articulate what God has taught me in more recent years. After in sharing my testimony at my baptism and sharing about what I learned by going on Czech Republic missions at the Missions Conference, it’s nothing less than marvelous to see how God drastically changed my definition/view of missions and the importance of the local church to align with what He has outlined in the Bible.

Anyways, this wasn’t really supposed to be about moi; I just wanted to share some quotes that I really liked while I was reading during my lunch break. :)

The kind of church you want to be a part of is one where, when the Bible is read at the begining of the sermon, that what follows is being built upon it. God made our hearts, and only he knows what we need And he made our hearts for the Word of God. Nothing nourishes us like His message….

…”Do not go,” says Charles Spurgeon, the best-known preacher of the 1800’s  “where it is all fine music and grand talk and beautiful architecture; those things will neither fill anybody’s stomach, nor feed his soul. Go where the gospel is preached, the gospel that really feeds your soul, and go often.”
